    I think it's a fashion statement.

32mpg and premium gas is pathetic if true.

Anyone who's seen the way I dress alrady knows this, but I hate fashion statements with a passion.

Edit: For the car and driver article which mentions 32 mpg: 2008 Smart Fortwo - Feature / Penny Pinchers: The Ten Least Expensive Cars Sold in the U.S. - Feature / Features/Classic Cars / High Performance / Hot Lists / Reviews / Car and Driver - Car And Driver

Italians lack of fear when talking about speed.
friday/saturday nights see from 35 to 50 deaths, of people between 16/17 and 35. I saw a previous gen Seat Leon completely totaled against a wall after a90° bend. it was doing 190 km/h, the speedo was there to say it.
speeding a Smart is nothing new here, and nothing different from speeding an S-Klasse.

natural selection apart, I think the going 130 km/h with a Smart can be quite noisy too.
btw, the Smart isn't very easy on fuel, it's like all the other less expensive and hi.tech compact cars we have over hear. just the diesel version was quite cheap to run, but veeeeery noisy.

0-100 km/h in 17 seconds is nothing horrible over here, we have cars doing it in 20 seconds. not that the traffic allow you to do even that some times.

I think this may be the reason why Italians build very fast supercars and this may also be the reason why Italy has no speed limits...

Italy has been the only country where I have been overtaken by a lorry in the motorway.

    I was doing about 140km/h.

You were already doing 140 km/hr and still been overtaken by a lorry...

Pretty scary if you'll get hit by one of those at that sort of speed...

I was once overtaken here doing 140 on a country highway (just a major twin lane road) by a road train marked with a 100km/h speed limited sign

    That's a pretty small car...

What did it feel like to be overtaken by something as menacing as that??? I'm just curious to how it feels like...

    That's an obvious answer...

But then, if i was in that car, i may have panic a little...

Because, what if the driver of the road train has to go back to your lane immediately while you still haven't been cleared by the trailers of the truck...

Obviously, you will be hit by the trailers...

and... that's gonna hurt a little

Panicking will get you killed on roads and in situations like that, as will postwhoring.

LotD is correct, he was much faster, and he felt safe in doing so. They drivers of those don't like to waste speed so don't wind them up unless they will have a clear run.

It wasn't long after this the mechanical limiters (like this had) where dispensed with and a GPS/ average speed limiting came in for trucks.

that would happen regardless of the numbers of trailers, of the speed it was going at, of the car you were driving.

I have a question for you, do you have a specific key for "..." or you press 3 times the single dot key every time?
