    Cheap-to-run 'Interesting' car Needed

My Mum is due to get a new car within the coming months, which means that I may also be up for getting a new set of wheels. Possibly with an upper limit of £2,500 I've so far come up with a 2001 Peugeot 306 Meridian 1.6 (Met paint, foglights, half-leather sports seats, CD-player and wheel controls, A/C, electric windows/mirrors and remote locking w/ alarm & alloy wheels)
At a push a 2003 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 may be accessible.

As I currently drive the only Mazda in the student car park, having something 'different' to everyone else in their Golfs, Polos, Corsas, Clios, 500s, MINIs etc seems cool, seeing as someone as already stolen my nearly life-long dream of a mk1 Ford Escort...

Has to be cheaper to insure than a Group 8E Mazda 323!

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Unless it's a curren't-gen Swift which is unlikely, I wouldn't touch one with a barge-pole

Old generation Ford Fiesta Zetec S, Ford Puma 1.4 or any Ford Focus with a 2.0 or smaller are all cracking to drive, reliable and above all are less than group 8 insurance. TBH though mate you should spend less on the car and more on the insurance

Go to Honest John's to see what insurance group a car comes under. Happy hunting.

Failing that a friend of mine has a Mk1 Golf GTi for sale and thats only group 11. Wait thats the same as my car. Errrrrmm..... i'm off to phone my bank manager a minute.

I agree with the Puma, brilliant little car. Preferably it should be the 1.7 though.

Or if you want something properly left-field, try this.

Haha, i actually looked at a mk1 Transit in mustard yellow funily enough. Looked at a 1.4 Ford Puma Coupe, group 9 is too high, don't like old Fiestas and I've looked at some 1.6/1.8 Foci, looking at 2002/2003 SEAT Ibiza S.Cool 1.4s and I looked at a few Miata/MX-5s, but the insurance group is too high.
Dad says no 'classics' so nothing pre-80s really haha.
Found a nice 46,000mi 1986 VW Scirocco, girlfriend told me no.

He probably was talking about the abuse previous owners might have given to the cars.

The Swift is a great little car, no doubt.
