kei cars are always a good choice.

i've been toying with the idea of those suzuki versions of the willy's jeep, so so awesome.

Isn't that Suzuki a little crude?

If you're never going to offroad stick with a car.

Copen comes across as a bit ghey, but I think there is some serious fun to be had there, low centre of gravity, low weight, rev-happy engine, and a sub-10sec 0-60mph time (good for a 17yr old in England)

If you don't mind the girly image, maybe a StreetKa?

Then again if you're going to buy this sort of car you may as well do it properly and buy an MX-5.

Yeah, I couldn't put myself in a StreetKa, that crosses the Ghey barrier, I would so take an MX-5, but sadly the Insurance grouping is out-of-range, the Copen JUST about gets in.

    Then go ahead.

Altough if I had to choose a crude offroader, my choice would be a Lada Niva. I just have soft spot for these things...

i've used the suzuki before (with cross ply tires too) and what it lacks in actual offroad gear, you make up by just being able to weave around any truly rough spots.

    Update: Most likely a 2003 VW Polo 1.2/1.4 S/SE/Twist or a 2002/2003 SEAT Ibiza S 1.4
Parents choices, but I'm not complaining. At all. Mum's likely to get a 2008 SEAT Leon 1.4TFSI 140bhp (2.0TFSI is only in the FR/Cupras, the next most powerful petrol is the105bhp 1.6, we don't want a TDI)

Go for the Seat. For some reason the Polo has a stupid driving position.

Altough neither are really interesting to be honest...

I'm not fussed either way to be honest, I prefer the looks of the Polo and the interior, also the 1.4 is a 75bhp 16v whereas the SEATs is a 60bhp 8v. but the SEAT does have digital climate control and remote locking over the Volkswagen. Polo is probably more likely as my parents really really like my girlfriends. I've not noiced the Polo's driving position, when I drive it I sit really far forwards so as not to mess up her seat position (I only ever move it around on the driveway and stuff) she looks like she sits very low but I think that's more how she likes it as I sit up high in the passenger seat, it does have a very long clutch which feels very odd when coming from my current car.
