    Ferrari 599 HGTE and 599xx

    Looking forward to the 'FXX'.

Ferrari has confirmed that it will bring two new versions of the 599 GTB Fiorano to the Geneva motor show. In addition to the rumored Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) package, it will show off the technology-laden 599XX.

Included in the HGTE package are newly designed 20-inch wheels wrapped in more aggressive rubber, stiffer springs, thicker antiroll bars, a retuned exhaust system and a new front grille. Expect the optional handling package to tack an additional $25,000 onto the 599’s bottom line.

The 599XX is Ferrari’s rolling test bed for its latest technological developments from the company’s road-going and Formula One work. Specifics haven’t been revealed, but Ferrari claims that many of the systems implemented into the 599XX are being used for the first time and have been exclusively developed for the model.

In the words of Ferrari, it’s “aimed at a select group of clients,” so look for it to make it to the road in some form.

yeah, I'm really interested in the 599XX, especially if it's going to be road legal.
the idea of a running laboratory, with the FXX, was good, but I never liked the idea of such a limited use of the car, considering the events programmed by Ferrari, eve if I should wonder how much spare time such owners could have.
btw, with a road legal car, the tests would take place everyday, much more interesting. besides, being an experimental car, it could bring some imperfection resulting in a not very reliable car, and therefore not so usable everyday. Maybe the swap of technology would be limited to certain almost safe areas of the car, or maybe the car won't be road legal at all, being just a less expensive FXX.
    we'll see.

IMO this bugs me more than say AM DBS Volante. I suppose making products like these offers higher margin, but just makes you feel worse about Ferrari not just go out and make a racing 599....

yeah, based on the new rules.
I don't know at which stage they are at the moment, but they started in October 08 iirc, or even before.

They were developped by the factory, but not run by them.
