Is It The End Of Mitsubishi?

Are we going to see the end of EVO's? Daimler has pulled all funding and arn't going to bail out. $11b in debt with nowhere to go

    Remind you of Saab slightly?

in my eyes, they are screwed. they're gonna need a complete takeover and a company to completely absorb their debts to go anywhere, but hey, Nissan did it, surely Mitsubishi Can too!

To look on the dark side, Oldsmobile had the biggest car company in the world on its side and its rolled up and died....

Oldsmobile was delibrately shut, GM had too many brands fighting for a shrinking sales base, and Oldsmobile was the weakest, it's called smart brand management, all those who want a retiree car now go to Buick.

    Sad but True.

Mitsubishi has a horrid range (The Evo is the ONLY standout, the rest are also rans) it has been rocked by corporate scandal after corporate scandal (The recall issue............) and in reality it can't pay it's debts, so it's technically bankrupt.

Shogun is pretty good 4WD, popular soccer mum car round here, rich farmers like it aswell (the ones that can't quite get a Range Rover, and don't like the Discovery)

Colt and Eclipse are pretty cool, Eclipse sells in big numbers to unfortunely, ricers...

I like the Airtrek, very distinctive looking vehicle.

I hate the new Diamante/Magna, but its a good seller in Australasia...

But yeah its all a bit of shit really.

    Real shame...

Shogun is old now, it needs to be replaced, it's still reasonably competitive.

Colts are lazy handlers, and the Eclipse is sold on price and style, athough it handles ok

The Airtrek is hideously Ugly, it looks like a 4X4 McMerc SLR

and the Diamante/Magna ain't selling well at all.

I think it looks quite cool, not beautiful, but cool.

People still like Shogun, even if its gettin on a bit.

Grannys are not going to mind if their car is lazy...most people who by the Colt will be looking for a funky hatchback, not a hatch back Elise...

Colt is meant to be Yooful and sporty, not a granny car like it is now, we still get the Mirage hatch ferchrissakes in oz! Maybe we'll get Euro Suspension tuning which will harsh up the ride.

i thought i read something recently that Daimler Chrysler released, saying that for now they weren't going to withdraw all of their 37% sharehold in Mitsubshi, but still refused to be part of Mitsu's global restructuring plan. Even if they did pull out though they'd be losing money with the drop in shareprice

I dont see Mitsubishi dissapearing any time soon, companies have their bad times an mitsu have experienced them in the past. They will pull through it eventually, besides mitsubishi dont just make cars remember, its a general production company. Its not as if they dont have money. Live on..

I thought MMC and Mitsubishi Electric (and all the others) were totaly different companys? Didn't the Americans break them up after WWII or somthing because they were too big. Thats what my boss told me. He's a service manager for Mitsubishi. I could be wrong.

Ohh I forgot, The Models. (Different names over here)

Colt: Good motor, crap gearbox, horrible blindspot on right front when approching intersections.
Lancer: Great engine upgrade to 2.0 litre, better handeling than the last one.
EVO: Finaly 6 gears in one direction.
Diamante: Horrid Trans, first Australasian AWD "Luxury" car. (I Think)
Triton L200: Blower on the Diesel like the old days, the petrol is graet, but again the trans lets them down, cant seem to get 4WD while moving.
Canllenger: MPI Great, Diesel Pretty Good, GDI forget it!!!
Pajero: As Above but bigger and indipendant suspension.
There are so many Import options here Im only talking about NZ new.

I'm not sure. I think several large Japanese companies did get broken up after the war, I think the main reason was that they had been the major producers of military equipment. I'm willing to bet that Mitsubishi got special attention, since they had designed and built the Zero.

Sesquipedalian -- a really cool word. It means long-winded, polysyllabic, or verbose. See the word describes itself...isn't that neat?
