Its funny people itching to accuse him of *something* but they're not quite sure yet what that something is, but they're sure its there!

The one in the magazine had the 180- turbo engine, with 1- 1 bbl.

I remember you could order one with 4- 1 bbls! (Four 1 barrels.) I wonder how hard an engine wtih 4 carbs would be to adjust.

So often many don't know figures for old cars.
YES, the risk is getting another FLeet v. World "debate" ... but that can be monitored. Let's not lose the info because of the bias
    Thanks Matra.

Yes, information such as posted above on classic cars should be encouraged because many people are interested in those cars and because any additional information is always good.

    TIA!
    That is a typo!

It should be 5800 as the redline.

To answer your first question... no. Those redlines are numbers to be considered, but not set in stone.

I reread a few road tests and it looks like the figures are from Motor Trend, not from the manufacturer. Because there is a box which has "specifications from the manufacturer" and the redline is not in that box but in another area.

Anyway, here are two quotes I found from the text of road tests:
    (1964 Pontiac GTO)
"We used 5500 rpm as our redline, since the engine flattened out considerably at 5800."

    (1962 421 Pontiac)
"The factory recommends a maximum of 5500 rpm with the standard dual valve springs" [M/T listed 6000 rpm as recommended maximum and their speed in gears was done shifting at 5600 rpm]

our 1967 Fiat 850 Coupe was redlined at 6500, maximum power came in at 6250, I have seen the rev counter at 6700 in top gear...

I used to be a human, an individual. Now I'm barely a 4chan muppet.

Seriously now, I've always wondered why people rev above the indicated redline on the tachometer, perhaps I'm too much of a pussy. I mean, unless they fine tuned and tested the car themselves and they know what redline is safe... why?

And then there's the complete opposite of myself:

Not hard when you know what you are doing.

That really is beautifully restored, amazing work.

Notice the belt that goes from horizontal rotation (cooling fan) to vertical rotation, pretty interesting.
