Delage and Delahayes at auction in Paris during Retromobile ...

On Wednesday, the annual Retromobile show in Paris will open its doors. Among the many attractions will be a representation from the fabulous Mullin Collection, which includes one of the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupe and the Pebble Beach winning Voisin C25, while the dealers are expected to bring rare gems ranging from the Auto Union Type D two no few fewer than two of the four Delage 15 S8s built. We will of course be at Retromobile first thing Wednesday morning to capture every highlight.
This week, British auctioneer Bonhams will also host a sale in Paris. One of the absolute stars is this Delage D8-105 S Coupe. Built early in 1935, it is one of the very last cars produced while Louis Delage was still in control of the company and it is one of only two survivors of its type. Ordered by a close friend of Louis Delage, this example was clothed by Letourneur & Marchand subsidiary Autobineau with an aerodynamic coupe body. Beautifully restored, the D8-105 S was recently shown at Villa d'Este. It is estimated to sell for 280,000 - 360,000 Euro.
Retromobile's official auctioneer is Artcurial, and the Paris based company has managed to secure some superb machinery for the sale. Our eye was caught by two Delahaye 135s, built immediately after the War. The earliest is this 135 MS Franay Cabriolet, which was fully appointed when new and even came with a set of bespoke Hermes luggage. Stored for over thirty years, the rare Delahaye was meticulously restored by a marque expert and is now expected to sell for over 500,000 Euro. The second Delahaye in the auction is this 135 M Pourtout Cabriolet. Thoroughly modern, the type of design was known as the 'Malmaison' after the suburb of Paris where coach-builder Pourtout was based. The striking machine was one of Pourtout's first designs with pontoon fenders. While completely restored, it was never entered in any of the major shows and with a pre-sale estimate of 280,000 - 400,000 Euro, it is a relatively affordable entry for concours like Villa d'Este or Pebble Beach.

Stunning cars, my personal favourite is the Pourtout cabby. Sleek and sporty, yet concise and understated.
