In addition to the familiar M3 Sedan, BMW will add a M3 Touring to the line-up for the first time. This may well be the most desirable of the new range of M3 and M4 models that will be launched this September. Like the other four- and two-door models, it will be powered by a straight-six, turbocharged engine that is good for 480hp or 510hp in competition trim. Although a prototype of an earlier generation M3 Touring was produced some 20 years ago, this will be the first to actual go into production.
Maserati, meanwhile, have expanded the Trofeo line-up with Ferrari V8-engined versions of the Ghibli and Quattroporte. Previously only available in the Levante SUV, the twin-turbo engine produces a hefty 580hp, all of which is sent the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. This is enough to give the two four-sedans a top speed of over 200mph.
Following the launch of the new latest generation A3 models, Audi have now unveiled the S3 Sedan and S3 Sportback. The two pocket rockets feature the familiar direct-injection and turbocharged two-litre engine. In its latest iteration, this well honed 'four' is good for 310hp. In good Audi tradition, this power is transferred to all four wheels courtesy of the proprietary 'quattro' all-wheel drive system.
