Question Why is the World playing 'Catch-up' ???

Why is the World playing 'Catch-up' to -

    1). 1970's HP -
I cannot think of anyone releasing a new/revised model without more HP/KW.

    2). 1970's BIG -
EVERY major car-manufacturer in the world is building BIGGER vehicles.

    3). RETRO - everything........
    Fuel consumption
    Design (inside & out)
    Remakes (Mini's, VW's) - who would'a' thought?

    AND - once again........
    HP/KW
    A 450HP SUV!

Yeah, every single one... except for most, who were then building tiny fuel-efficient cars to cope with the onset of the oil crisis.

how exactly does this relate to the 70's since the beggining of cars, auto makers have made new models that have more hp, I do however agree with you about retro styling but only on design fetures. just take a look at some of the dodge concepts

After the Oil Crisis every car that had anything over 250-300hp lost it (HP that is).
Since the 70's 'HP crash' and the fuel frugal cars thereafter all we've seen is an ever increasing attempt by car makers to get back to the 500hp mark.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE IT!

I don't believe any of that. If it was true, you'd post it in "User's Rides". No excuses.

people who own such good cars usually have photo's of them, as they are there pride and joy.

If you really did love that car as much as you say, then you'd have photo's.

I have a friend who takes photo's of his dad's XF Ute, coz he loves it.

Grow up, we don't accept lies here.

    We shouldn't have too.

The fact is, you can't prove it, and until such time as you can, we will call you an utter liar. even a paper photo and a scanner will do, you seem to be able to afford some nice cars, why can't you buy a digital camera?

I've gotten off topic, but some people, honestly......

Car manufacturers these days are expanding like the old 50's cars, most customers are full of cash, brand conscious and all they want is a really, really good looking, well equiped car. Most cars are neutered nowadays so they relatively drive the same, so such things as brand perception come to light, how the brand is percieved gives it a playing field as such. Some try to move their playing field upmarket (Ford, Opel, VW) while some are moving downmarket to the masses (MB, BMW). BMW, it should be remembered, was a sneered at brand (Isetta, anyone?) so it's kind of like a homecoming for them to be moving down. but i digress.

The customer wants more, the company kindly obliges, so, as the need to fit space and stuff into cars become important, more space is required, hence cars get bigger.
People want performance, an easy way to do that is to make bigger capacity engines, so the fuel economy also goes away.

I can see your logic, AutoM, but to be honest, most manufacturers recognise their commitment to the envronment, and, while making SUV'S, they also make Prius type cars, so they kind of cancel out.......
