the only 'innovation' was the choice to leave the SS unfinished, which meant EVERYOEN complained about the fingerprints and you dont' want to even consider how bird-shit looked on it

    Everything else was very mediocre.

oh, the other famous 2 things were the sinking of 100million pounds of development money to 'regenerate' NI industry and the attempt to fund a car company with drugs

    Showing a US bias again
There were MANY MANY European affordable cars that were better - Matra and Alpine for example
DeLorean used Lotus and Renault expertise and parts to assist him in taking his idea into produciton.
and the finish was lambasted on introduction !!! Notice that NOBODY has ever repeated it - there was a reason

Matra Murena - first hot-dip galvanised chassis production car.

oh and 3 seats abreast like the Bagheera Not sure if I'd call that innovation though

You should check out all of these then ... http://www.matramurena.net/gallery.html

Unbless you believed John DeLorean's "hype".
The car was NEVER a supervar and couldnt' keep up with those cars listed above.
To the American market it may have seemed 'super', but only because you only got to see one of the cars in that list above

Matra France follow on to the successful Bagheera ( the reasons the galvi was such a good idea is that Bagheera's rusted faster than you could breathe )
    1.6 or 2.2 engines.
After tie up with Renault for the Espace it was doomed as Renault now had 2 excellent mid engined cars the A310 and the Murena. If only they could have put the PRV V6 into a Murena

google search on matra cars will bring up hundreds of excellent sites.
Try http://www.matrasport.dk/Cars/Murena/murena-index.html ( the homepage of which has ALL the Matra info ( no prizes for finding my car in there somewhere _
or http://www.carjoy.nl/murenaE.html ( again a good homepage www.carjoy.nl and cars for sale too - Dutch as well )
and finally THE most comprehensive list of Matra sites at http://www.euronet.nl/~wilaben/

EDIT: Yeah, comon Wouter. How about some decent UCP coverage on Matra road cars ??????

How about less DeLorean pictures??? They're really annoying me! That car didn't even come near changing the world.... wow, brushed bodywork that stains if a bird sh*ts on it! A nasty engine, electrics that never work, and the party piece being revolutionary gullwing doors that don't stay open convincingly.... whoa, hold the phone! I remember gullwings on the Mercedes Gullwing 300SL from 1956...

I just realised that the Muira was before it too! Well I think the car looks good for 1967's styling, the GTM that is.
