When can we expect pictures of this abomination you call a car with said wheels on it?

On a side note, assuming it's well maintained, how miles can one expect to get out of a circa 1998 Jetta with the VR6?

Two months probably. Really need to get the suspension sorted before I put them on or I'll rub like Damian's mom on a... Nevermind.

As long as the chains and tensioner are done every 80-100k miles, you'll be fine. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

    Der Wagen is down...

So as some of you know, last week I was in a minor accident. It was my fault. I hit a Honda at about 3mph. The only visible damage was my beloved Votex grille. It was pretty well trashed. I still think it's fixable with a bit of plastic welding and some know-how.

Move on to Thursday of this week. I'm on my way home from work, when sitting at a stop light I notice white wisps of smoke in front of my car. It couldn't be. Another transmission? Nope. Maybe my leaky oil pan and valve cover gaskets have finally caught up with me, and it's going to blow up? Nope. I drove it all the way home, with on-and-off white plumes coming from the grill area. Parked in my usual spot, popped the hood. And it hits me.

That oh-so-recognizable smell of burning coolant. But where's it coming from? There's drips of coolant on the outside of my airbox, and on the alternator too. Then I squeezed the upper rad hose. A stream of hot G12 sprayed all over the bay. Yep. That's gonna cost me.

So today I started to tear into it, to find all the damage. So far I'm going to need an upper coolant hose, radiator support, bumper core, and a grill- at least temporarily till I can fix the other one (or I find one for sale, but that won't happen.).

On to the pictures. You can see how mangled the grill is, and the bends in the radiator support.

Two more. Last one is how it sits right now. I'm about to drain the coolant out of it so I can take the condenser and radiator out to see if either of those are damaged. I kinda hope the condenser is so I can take the AC system out and actually have a legitimate reason for doing it.

So, I'm done for the day. Got the core support, and rad support off; and drained most of the coolant. Volkswagen engineers are evil. They use the worst hose clamps in the history of man. Definitely not replacing them with OE pieces. I'm going to get the standard screwdriver-them-bitches-closed kind. Pics speak for themselves. Time for a (couple) cold one(s) and some Forza.

I'm setting that as my wallpaper on the computer in my room. <3

And there will be no screws left over, since I'm going to replace all of them.

The thought has crossed my mind. There's also been talk around the house of "loans," "co-signing," "warranties," and other such things. At which point I'm not sure what would become of der Mk3...

Insurance claim for fire and theft. I'll come over and steal it, then burn it. Sorted.

(Just take any wanted CDs/parts off first)
