My dad had a hornet sportabout when I was a kid, 360 cid, from what I remember it was a good car.

The sport about was the wagon wasnt it? (thats what the sheets i have american motors 1954-1987 shows the pic of) there was also the levi speacial (gremilns are remberd for it) where the seats were coverd in the same materials as... levi jeans. The only other car that amc made that im not big on was the marlin it was mechanicly sound it was quick but it was just a little odd looking (id still own one but wont go out of my way to get one) and photos dont do the matadors any justice they look much better in person.

The Hornet sportabout was available as a wagon or hatchback, I think sportabout was an option package, but I'm not really sure

BTW: Its hard to try and defend AMC ... but I applaud your attempt .

Not exactly easy to defend but not deserving of the bad rap they have been given. Ill gladly have one of them AMX's any day.

Actually when it comes to AMC they made more crap than good cars. Here's a quick rundown.

    Good/OK Cars:

Javelin
Hornet
Rambler
Rebel
Bad Cars:

Ambassador
Matador
Gremlin
Pacer
Concord
Spirit
Eagle
I can't think of any other AMC cars, actually I'm embarassed to know these

    Thumbs up LMFAO

    That is funny!!

I don't think that AMC's were so particularly bad as they were uninspired and several years behind the other 3 American automakers.

Hard to imagine an Aussie knowing so much about U.S. autos.

Well its all down to reasherch becuase i was interested i printed the AMC history (only 27 pages long missing a lot of detail but gives you a good idea) my old man is a collector of american car magazines and hes the owner of 2 65 studebakers (its beside the point that in 65 studebaker was building them in canada their still and american brand)
I am also an avid ford fan im even interested i even the english ones and the south african ones are very interesting too. And i just plain love american cars the olny GM i dont like are holden, opel and to be honest im not all to big on chevrolet, i still like the cars dont get me wrong but sort of got sick of them. And mopars love the mopars both the aussie and the american counterparts.

Do you have pix on Aussie Mopars, are they different to ours, if so could you post a few of them?
