As far as anyone involved knows, it's the highest horsepower SBC on stock internals ever. Detuned street version is 575whp. Best run, with smaller injectors than were ideal was 606whp.

My driver's ed teacher has a stock 04 Z06, he claims that it can beat challenge ferrari 360's, porsches, and bmw's, on the race track of course. Its quite a car.

he's been racing for years mainly scca and nhra, he was a teacher at a highschool, so he had to teach drivers ed, retired and now does it on his own. I'm going racing with him this weekend at Lime Rock, I'll get some pics.

Still it's hard to see it be stock 'vette versus stock porsche ( or it's an old OLD 911 - or even a 914 ( ducks expecting missile from Egg-Nog ) and NO WAY the 360 unless the owner if IT was some lardy-arsed company exec with a play-thing

Like mates son who beat an Exige in his second race at the weekend. Pretty good for an XR2 ( the Exige wasn't pulling worth anything, clearly had engine problems but kept going ) But I bet it made for great conversation in work yesterday for him

That was the C6 with MSRC, not the perfomance Z51. And even with the perfomance Z51 suspension package (which improves not only handling, but acceleration, and braking) the Z06 is still faster... I would be surprised at all to see the Z06 take a 360 challange.

Now I'm not a great advocate of R&T on their comparison as any articles I've read tend not to have pushed the handling that severly and focus on the "ride comfort" side of things.

your first list includes a vette from 01-02 which ran with 385 hp and a diff suspension, you second list doesn't include the Zo6 as it is not an 05 model, which was a requirement for that list. There is no doubt in my mind that a 405hp from factory corvette with ultralight parts and a race ready suspension, which is what the zo6 was, could handle the ferraris with a good driver

That was the order in subjective ranking. Had nothing to do with which car was fastest on the track. The combined segment times were:Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

5. Evo (21.208)
And that wasn't even measured over the entire lap, just over two cornering segments. Judging by the Z06's entry and exit speeds, it was the fastest among the group on the straights. Not surprising, as the 385-hp Z06 has beaten the 360 Modena and Porsche Turbo on previous occasions.
And that was the '02 Z06 tested by R&T. The '04s have better shocks, same ones used on the Commemorative Edition Z06, which has lapped Gingerman Raceway in 1:33's. About the same as C&D managed with the 360CS (1:34.19). Any difference between these two comes down to the driver IMO.
