i guess if you'd only ever hammer it in the wet, the leaf springs are good enough but some people want to be safe 24/7........but i guess some of those people "rely" on AWD in the wet as well....

Traction control is much better for the average joe than AWD in the wet. It simply stops you from going too fast. Takes the thinking out which is how many people drive. AWD will still understeer and oversteer if you go in too hot.

Biggest problem with AWD is people think it wont get sideways or lose control, They can and if they do goodnight sister

try the first mainstream AWD's....had the disadvantages of BOTH FWD and RWD until people like Audi and Subaru put the development into a smart system.
you gotta make sure you get a good traction control system as well. some will rely on the ABS to brake spinning wheels, others will use the throttle and spark to cut engine power AS WELL as the ABS
