PS: Go to the SUperbird thread and see the post of the car doing the bralke test. DOn't see much equipment visible there - not even a jockey wheel. SO NOT all test were the same then
2.) Waken up please, if some cars are don with only an decelerometer deflection instrument then that weight WILL make a difference.
3.) I know, HP used to provide a LOT of the test equipment then and now
The company museum adn magazines were the source for my knowledge of what was going on in cars in the US during design/development
1.) In this case, I can't provide all the information you are asking because I never worked at Motor Trend. But I have posted plenty of photos showing that equipment was indeed carried in cars.
They got the 60-0 mph stopping figure by tape measure... you wouldn't need equipment (except for the 5th wheel on back to make sure the car was actually going 60 mph) for that test.
2.) Yes, but added weight is the same, whether it's equipment or passengers. Incidentally, Car Life magazine, in their spec charts, would list curb and test weight, test weight being the passengers and the test equipment carried on board.
3.) Oh, I didn't realize that HP provided equipment. Makes sense, though.
