    Porsche Models

I see everyone talking about 993's and 997's, and they just look like 911's to me. What's the difference? Are they like special edition/sport models of the 911?

the 993,996,997 numbers are the internal numbers that porsche use to differentiate between different generations of 911. These number are also used by fans because they help avoid confusuion as porsche do not change their model names (gt3,turbo,gt2 etc.) very often (or at all!!).

oh, ok...haha, I never even knew they had "Generations" of Porsches, just slight body changes and interior changes over the years. Thanks!

It is when you refuse the admit that different porsche 911 models look different from each other. Side effects include repeating the phrase "VW Beetle is the same as a 911" and "wow, I am getting overpaid".

    Hope this helps

Oh...that's kinda mean. It's not that I dont believe they look different in some way (the evolutionary changes do give them different attitudes), I was ignorant. I couldn't put my finger on any one difference alone, so that in the end, the current model looks just like the first one, only with evolutionary detail work. Most people like me who don't follow 911's, and those who don't follow cars in general probably think as I did, too.

Not that that's a bad thing to look like the original, I've always thought the 911 design to be a fine looking and nicely balanced sportscar design.

i agree. the 993, 996, and 997 looks very much the same. only the earlier model (964 and others earlier) have enough different to be called a new models.
