I think they are a great car ...... incredible performance for a reasonable price .... not to mention room for 4 "real" people.

It is quite a nice car it handels good and is quite fast is also recently won its class in motor magizines Bang For Your Buck$ (DFYB)
One queastion i have and at the risk of sounding stupid i thought the subarus used a "flat" engine not an inline altough ive heard stories that they were thinking of changing the layout.

they use the "boxer" engine, ive heard of no plans otherwise the STi has the 2.5 liter turbo while the 2.5 RS has the 2.5 liter n/a version, the regular WRX has the 2 liter turbo all are horazontaly opposed "boxer" engines

Well in the information that crasy_for_cars gave he stated it had an inline engine configuration i was mainly asking becuase i heard stories they wanted to go to a v4 instead of the boxer engine it sort of threw me off and as you might of guessed im not very up to date with WRX's.

its possible to twin turbocharge a car if the engine is an inline configuration the supra for example is twin turbocharged with an inline 6 cylinder. the suberus have a boxer engine where the 2 banks of cylinders are layed out in a flat horizontaly opposed setup hence the term "flat-4"

Lancia and matra used to be very big on v4s (they are the only 2 examples i can think off the top of my head) And it has all the upsides of a v shaped block Balance, size etc etc it sounded like an alright idea and it wouldent need the massive conter weights the boxer engine neeeds when you begine to really modify them (usually 12 seconds on the 1/4 or faster)

im shure there where V4 engine configurations by many car comapnys bt most opted for the inline 4 probly due to its smzll size, lower weight and ease of mounting on smaller cars in a FWD configuration(i.e. less exhaust plumbing) with fewer parts(i.e. 1 head instead of 2)

I never did think of the les parts and ease of mounting in fwd cars i still think a v4 woulden be such a bad idea though.

well, it probably isnt better than the inline 4. coz i assume that some research and financing was already placed into playing around with the V4 configurations as well as the inline, and since all we see today is inline 4s.
but that not necessarily true, coz using the same rational, then rotary engines arent as good as Mazda claims either coz no one else uses them.
its a bit confusing this whole "which engine configuration is better" thing !!
