To me it doesn't apply though, simply because Europe is translated to "Europa" in Spanish.

Can be done in the US too... and probably in other countries as well.
I think you mean five, or then six.

Name a continent that isnt like that though. You'll probably only get Antarctica. Oceania/Australasia/Australia might be the most extreme case, but its by no means a reason to denote it as a continent.

8 if you add Central America into the list. Guatemala all the way down to Panama. Wait a minute...isn't Australia a continent as well as a country? That would make it 9.

That's pretty much how I was taught it, only we didn't have Oceania until high school. Before then it was just Australia and F everyone else.

My Atlas lists seven continents thusly:
    • Asia
    • Africa
    • North America
    • South America
    • Antarctica
    • Europe
    • Australia & Oceania

So if one chooses to ignore modifiers like "North" or "South," or the obvious fact that Europe and Asia are a single landmass, than the fact can be considered correct.

Not nesseceraly, in Latin America, schools teach that North America is made up of Canada, USA and Mexico. Central America of everything between Guatemala and Panama. South America...eveything else south of that. The Carribean isn't considered to be part of the American continent...even by the Carribeans themselfs.
