Maserati MC12 - How art thee illegal? Let me count the ways

The Maserati MC12 has now been modified to meet the 2005 FIA GT fules.

    Hooray!

When I heard that they had built a car which didn't comply, I thought it was just something to do with dimensions, but it seems Maserati "accidentally" fitted carbon brakes and traction control aswell.

Must have "slipped their minds" or something

I'm hoping that it does well, but not too well. Ahem, DBR9

I thought FIA had adapted the rules to accomodate the Maser?

Me too, because the car was in trouble from the start....rules wise.

Maybe they came to their senses and decided not to bend the rules. Or was it that the carbons and TC were only supposed to be for the road versions?

The car has been revised to meet the rules, in a bizzare twist.

They're going to have to build another version for the ACO; Le Mans, ALMS, LMES series though.

They really didn't think it through did they...

I agree, a stupendous debacle for a company with as much racing experience as they have.

Is FIA going to take away the wins that the car had? Germany, China?

Don't think so - they didn't get any points did they?

Or they were running ballast or something like that...

I think during the last races they were official competitors, not "hors competition"

Didn't Lamborghini had to make the Murcielago R-GT a RWD?
What bigger changes could they possibly do to the MC12?

I'm looking forward seeing the MC12 running against his rivals.
It might give a slight impression of how the Enzo would perform in the FIA.

the car was FIA GT eligible .. as henk says from last race in 2004 i think . the problem is ACO . it is not eligible . but will race in ALMS in current(FIA GT 2005) form till june . if they want to race the car from that point in ALMS . they will have to be 100% ACO regulation ..

the changes regard width and front and rear overhangs

I thought that from 2005 FIA GT and the ACO would use the same regulations. So that a GT car only had to be built to one set of rules
