The arrival of the Renault 4 in 1947 resulted in a host of small companies trying to squeeze out all the sporty elements that the car already had. Let’s not forget that in its standard form it participated in the Le Mans 24 Hour race.
One of those companies is Vernet et Pairard, who first started out with a vehicle based on the 4CV and intended to break some class speed records. They reached their objectives, just prior to the Paris Salon of 1952, when they established 8 international records, the most noticeable being a top speed of 172 kph. This car was a spyder and together with a coupe, V&P entered the 1953 Le Mans race. The Coupe reached its final shape in 1954, but unfortunately Renault did not want to see it entering production.
In total 4 Coupes were made, three based on a tubular chassis, and one on the 4CV platform. This car is shown here at the occasion of the 2006 Retromobile show. This car has an 845 cc engine, producing 35 BHP and giving a top speed of 130 kph.
V&P continued to enter the coupes in Le Mans until 1958, but then disappeared from the scene.
