BMW are changing to M3s, and the current Ring Taxi mob are changing to a Mini JCW and a 911 GT3 RS (for Sabine), apparently.
Life's too short to drive bad cars.

Sabine is awesome - I'd love to meet her. She is so full of energy, a real gearhead, and a great driver.

Indeed. For 700-odd € I would expect more than a lap on the Nurburgring.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.

A lap in the 911, and to be on her lap, in a manner of speaking?

^ The price reflects the outrageous charges the new company takes to cross fund their loss leading hotel, casino and fairground ( and egos ).

Thus why many fear the loss of it ... the Ring-Taxi ran 3 cars continuously when they operated because at about $90 a head everyone took the opportunity.
THe belief is that MANY fewer will at these inflated prices and so less money will actually be made.

One aspect of the rumours is how much BMW are putting on the table.
THey may say they are returning with M3, but unless they underwrite the costs as they did in the past then they will be charging more for the use of the car.

To give a partial insight, friend runs a tuned Corvette as a ring 'taxi'.
If he really goes for it he gets less than 10 laps from a set of tyres and brakes.
( remember that the tyres HAVE to be road legal )
The original Ring-Taxi drivers never hang back so I'd expect about the same.
( Especially the rears as they like to "showboat" on the fast corners where the crowds view )
So one lap works out about $200 JUST for the tyres
THen factor in the brakes, fuel, servicing, oil etc and then the huge subsidy BMW used to pay for the ring rides is clear.
I wonder how much of that subsidy will return in the new prices.

and thus why the Porsche one is so costly perhaps ?

Also putting things in context ..... folks will pay $500 for a ticket to go see some crap singer/band live. Here you get 100% of a real stars attention AND the ride of a lifetime that exceeds any disney ride folks will queue for hours to enter and over in 5 minutes.

At least a ring lap lasts 10 minutes .... AND you get a cuddle from Sabine :lech:

Well on the positive front RSR are back on the 'ring after winning a court case against Linder et al.

Two articles translated are interesting to see the mess and teh continued carpet bagging by these guys !!

For me the stupidity of those on the other side of this tho' is they agreed to pay Lindner "compensation" for when F1 race was at the 'ring for "loss of income". WHAT ? THe place is full of hundreds of thousands of fairly well off motor enthusiasts who have come to spend money. I'm betting the only time Ring-Werk will ever be packed is F1 weekend !

BTW, lots of cars are now being seen on track with "SAVE THE RING" stickers.
Saw this snap with Jim's P4/5 but dont think he carried it ? Did you Jim ??

Well, until the case is solved, the law protects those idiots from the people that know the truth . However, I don't think that they will get away with it. The german court may be slow, but they will (hopefully) make the right decision.

Just the latest example of how a skeevy group with money and lawyers can muzzle the truth.

SHIT .... now we are looking at serious issues.

The End of the 24 Hours Race?

Alarming news for ADAC Chairman Peter Meyer:

“Motor sport is rarely lucrative, except for Bernie Ecclestone. With the 24-hour race at Nurburgring, we might have, thanks to many volunteers, generated break-even. But most of the time it is a support business. The guys from Nürburgring Automotive GmbH don’t get it, they claim to know everything better.”

“We have a framework agreement, which extends to 2012. We will fulfil this contract. After that we need to negotiate a new one. A lot will happen up to then - it is known that some legal disputes are running against the operators. We will quietly examine what is happening. There are alternative race tracks around, Zolder is not far and Spa also located close to Cologne.”

Peter Meyer is not anybody, he is chairman of ADAC. See ADAC’s wikipedia entry - it is Germany’s and Europe’s largest automobile club with more than 17 million members. The ADAC is also organiser of the 24 Hours race - despite others, like the German Formula 1 GP.

He claims the NAG, which belongs to Kai Richter and Jörg Lindner, “knows everything better”. The people I talk to second that and expamples like Scuderia Hanseat demonstrate, how the NAG multiplies fees or even tries to take over events altogether. Their motivation, unlike the one of ADAC, is not to support motorsports, but to maximise their private income.

One thing is for certain: if 24 Hours Race goes, it would be the end of Nordschleife as we know it. Save The Ring.
The End of the 24 Hours Race?

If ADAC were to go elsewhere, woudl there be ANY value/motivation to keep the track in good condition ?

update: It is now very likely that they will be in court on charges by the end of the year !
More corrupt/illegal practices have been identified after they raided their offices earlier in the year.

The Save The Nurburgring! campaign goes from strength to strength and now every race seems ot have lots of cars with the stickers on view

The NAG group responded to the save the ring campaign by creating their own called "love the ring" with stickers nearly identical to the save the ring ones -- clearly hoping to take advantage and confuse Being German they didn't realise the connotation of carrying a sticker saying LOVE THE RING in an English speaking country !!!

Scottish racers showed their support and we had EVERY car with STR stickers at the recent Fintray hillclimb, part of the Scottish Championships If you want to know more then facebook page is Facebook and the web page is Save The Nurburgring!

Photos of the cars all stickered up today are at Pete's Facebook album

That's the worry, doesn't seem to be any vision for the future of NAG and the idea of returning it to the local politicians who got connected the first time around is equally worrying.

There are enough well established business familiies thre that coudl run it as a co-operative. Ron Simmons, Schmidt family etc etc

That's the Ferrari shop leaving the Ring-Werke "mall". That will leave only Aston !!!

Ferrari-Store at Nürburgring is closing. Asked why, the representative replied: "We'll move to another place". "To where" I asked. To a big city, we don't know where yet. Important for us ist to leave here first"

In other words: "leave the ring" ;-)
