Mercedes T80

Does anyone have any more pics or technical specs of this glorious beast?

I've been searching for a while and haven't found much.

It appears that the car was initially concieved in 1937, designed by Ferdinand Porsche and built by Mercedes for Hans Stuck, who wanted to make an attempt at the speed record.

Powered by a 44.5-litre V12 giving about 3,000hp it was initially reckoned to be capable of 550km/h, but there are also figures of 600-750km/h (!)
(340 - 465mph)

Unfortunately its unveiling at the 1940 Rekordwoche never happened due to some sort of war.

Coupe:- as in the French for "cut" (which is why the Septic pronounciation "coup" is wrong). Traditionally a shortened/lowered/ (cut) etc "sports" version of a saloon (sedan) car.

Now commonly used to refer to 2 door front engine sports cars.

It was never raced.

"Hans Stuck's pet project was to take the land speed record and he convinced Mercedes-Benz to build a car for the attempt. The Germans were handicapped by the fact that for political reasons the record had to be broken on German soil. Porsche aimed first at 550 km/h but after Euston's and Cobb's runs the aim was raised to 600km/h. It was predicted that the first appearence of the T80 would be on the 1940 "Rekordwoche". However, for obvious reasons the 1940 "Rekordwoche" was never held and the futuristic Porsche designed car was never to be raced. "

Wow it looks like an airplane. I'd imagine it is fast butn can that thing even turn??
