New Rules Announced in V8 Supercar Land

First up, why doesnt V8SC have its own sticky thread...

V8SCA have announced new rules to take effect next season which I think should have an interesting effect on the racing. Number one is the dropping of the three race sprint format changing to a two by 200km race weekend. The second is dropping of compulsory pit stops, however, the cars more than likely will not do 200km on one set of tyres so therefore the pitstops will still be there, but, if theres a wet race with lots of SC intervention, a stop may not even be required.
The third change is one set out of the three sets of tyres allocated to be of softer compound, to be used during one of the races a la Formula One. That hasnt done a great deal for F1 but as for V8SC with heavier cars and less rubber on the road maybe this may spice things up towards the end of the soft tyre stint. They have also said that there will be more announcements regarding rule changes at the end of the season.
    Any thoughts?

IIRC, theres still compulsory pit stops for fuel, but theyve ditched the pit window, allowed tyre changes to happen at the same time and with the switch to E85 and expected 50% increase in fuel consumption, its a mere formality. They wouldnt last a 200km race on a single tank now, let alone with the increased consumption.

Why E85? Why not just go whole hog on to E100?

Not sure really. Perhaps they cant get a large enough supply of E100, or they dont want to overhaul the whole engine/fuel systems to accomodate the heavily increased corrosion with ethanol. E85 i think is more familiar with fans and people in general. As much as they say E85 will produce less CO2, the fact that it decreases the economy by around 50% will probably mean at the end of each race, they've probably put out more CO2 so it seems to be purely a publicity stunt.

You need a lot of e85 fpr the equivilent hp that 100 octane makes, the burn rate is slower but it has good resistance to knock and more timing can be used . My engine tuner has played with the e85 mainly on turbo engines and reckons that 40% more fuel is needed for the same HP so fuel pump and maybe injectors need to be replaced. He made slightly more hp with e85 but took 2 days of solid dyno tuning to acheive it. We run the boost 98 with 110 octane booster and its good for the turbo engines and helps the NA with a slighlty slower burn rate... it does love rubbers and filters though..... going back to avgas next year with toulene next year.

But E85 is going to need that done anyway. But supply probably is the issue.

E85 and to a further extent E10 has more protection though from the remaining unleaded in the mix.
