Basically a Fiat X1/9 with the V6 engine from the Fiat 130 shoved in the back. Second overall in the 1974 Giro d'Italia, driven by Giorgio Pianta.

Isn´t this based on a Lancia Beta Montecarlo?
Here http://www.motorforum.it/cronoforum/...115503&sid=0ba you can see the car from the side. But above seems to be a X1/9 based racecar. Perhaps someone speaking italian can tell us what it says there.
Actually it's the other way round. The Beta Montecarlo was losely based on the SE 030 (minus the V6 obviously). The Beta Montecarlo was supposed to be the Fiat X1/20 (also called early on the X1/8) a sort of big brother to the X1/9. But later it was decided that the X1/20 would make more sense as a Lancia and therefore the Beta Montecarlo was born. The SE 030 actually used a X1/20 (Beta Montecarlo) bodyshell.

Thanks for that. Fantastic pictures! You can find quite a good history of the beta´s development here: http://www.lanciamontecarlo.net/monte_history.html

I had seen those last two pictures floating around the internet before, but they were too low-res to make out the "Abarth-Pinifarina" stickers, so I assumed this was some nutcase's version of an XJ-S.
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"
