    That actually looks pretty good.

I don't see many of the older (new model) wagons around though.

    Shame.

Theres a black 318i touring with beige interior for sale with only 7000kms were i live. Its fully loaded with sat nav, leather, etc...absolutely beautiful and brand spanking new.
The only problem is that I have a BMW X5 3.0i with 100,000kms and 8 years old which I want to change and I feel the 318i is going to be underpowered.

But your X5 is quite a lot heavier.

    2001 BMW X5 3.0i 230 hp, and 2070 kg = 9 kg per hp

    2005 BMW 318i 127 hp, 1425 kg = 11,2 kg per hp

100 hp less, 700 kg more

silly difference in the weight/power ratio, without considering the height, the useless huge tires and so on...not that I never considered the X5 as a possibility

I know what your saying but the way the X5 holds its speed up hills or when full of luggage and people is impressive and I think the 318i is gona lack power when under strain.

the figures above show it shouldn't be much of a difference, and you gain advantages everywhere else (handling, fuel economy etc etc).
you are right in that on it's own 127 hp in a 3 series really is not much.
