    BMW Engines

Is there a particular reason why the new BMW's have been made with the new engine capacities (eg, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0) rather than the BMW trademark engines (1.6, 1.8, 2.8, 3.5) ???

They seem to be rounding the sizes up. Its just an observation that i made. nothing particularly interesting or anything.

    cheers

i think they did it because of their competitors. Bavarian engines are the best road car engines, but their competitors choose another way to increase power: they increase capacity and use turbines and superchargers. BMW specialists decided to fight them by their methods. (Audi and Mercedes : they have engines 3.2 ; 3.5 liters for example , but Bavarian cars like 530 has only 3. i think that soon BMW change it by new engine with more than 3 liters. certainly they can make old engine more powerful, but it wont be such economy as its competitors)

Some of the older engine sizes were based on the tax breaks on cars in varioius countries around Europe.
Modern tax is harmonised and more dependant on emissions than engine size.
So BMW have more freedom to pick the best engien size for their cars.
