Right now, it's a '56 Oldsmobile 2-dr. hardtop, metallic sea green and white. J-2 Rocket V8 is a bonus, but not necessary.

Amen, the flip lights made the Miata, IMHO. It was a shame when Miatas and Corvettes both went to fixed headlights.

Good to see your taste in cars growing towards the better.

I believe it went Prius => Ford Taurus => Mercury Marauder => now Mercedes Benz classics.

You're almost to the level of respectability now.

Whew, what a transition... from Prius to Mercedes.

Old Mercedes including that W126 can be bought for very little money these days, yet despite their age and affordability they can still be an enjoyable car to drive and own > if < you choose well and get one that has been kept maintained to a standard and still in viable condition. This is true for any old car and especially the euros. Otherwise you will buy misery. For enthusiasts who know where to shop, the prices of parts and service is usually surprisingly modest. In my experience it's not much more than running a same-era Ford Falcon eg

The W126, W124 and little W201 were still built to traditional Benz standards but the quality really took a dive after those models ceased and I would especially avoid anything built from 1993. For a modest price premium (in Oz at least) the often overlooked W126 pillarless Coupe is a classy old car imo

Check out these informative buyer guides for W126

Like any older Mercedes Benz the W126 is capable of big mileages if well maintained. My first pic was our M-B fleet before selling the two on the right. Purchase prices left to right were AUD$3,000, $1,500 and $2,000 which imo is cheap-as for what you get. The 2nd pic is the supa doopa $3k one it's my daily drive and now with 435,000kms on reco heads but original short-block. The V8 upshifts smoothly at 6000rpm and still burns no oil. We've done 200,000+ kms in old Merc S-Class and glad to share info and advice

    Yeah, I don't have a lot.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

A 1500bhp Toyota Supra but it has to be a different colour to supraboy95's uncle's Supra. 5 or 6 NOS canisters should be behind the front seat at any time.

I don't feel my ideal dream car is at reach for some years unless something very large changes..

So instead i'll build one to pass the time away with my VP unless something comes up.
But basically my thoughts are VZ Calais 3.6lt V6 and 5 speed auto converted into my car, Then maybe turbo the engine for about 260rwkw, Give the interior a Calais make over, Maybe ad IRS remove the live rear, Ad ABS with some 343mm front and 320mm rear rotors, Have a adjustable suspension for height, Replace the VP front end turn it into a VS, Ad some HSV flutes and monaro bonnet vents, Find a body kit i like and stick some 19" wheels on it.

Plan B is V6 supercharged engine.
Plan C is do it all to a VT.
Plan D is get enough money and buy a VE Calais V

Today it's a '51-'53 Hudson Hornet with a Twin H-Power 308ci (5-liter) straight six, bored out to 313ci (5,1l), 4-speed with selectible overdrive and a Chrysler SureGrip 9-3/4" rear axle sporting 3,92:1 gears.
