    Chrysler return to ATCC...

    Well.....sortof

Rumour has it that after the Audi A6 being the safety car for the 2004 V8 Supercar series, the Chrysler 300C will be the safety car for the 2005 series. The car in its special safety car livery is supposedly going to be released this weekend at Homebush in Sydney for the official start to the 2005 V8 Supercar series.

You have to wonder if this is Chrysler trying to squeeze their way into becoming the 3rd manufacturer AVESCO want

Possibly, but don't they need to make a car in australia to be eligible, there unlikely to do that until they are MAKING money.

I think thats the major hurdle theyve got to achieve. At the rate Mitsubishi's going though, would it be out of the question for Chrysler to consider buying back the Tonsley park if the 300C picks up? That idea's starting to sound pretty far fetched

The 300c? Unlikely, the import tariffs they put on it will kill the price, put it up against stuff like the Passat/A6 and 5 series, i'd know which i'd go for, if only for the resale.

And didn't Chrysler sell Tonsley Park to Mitsubishi? Sets a bad precedent!

Well theyre hoping it'll be priced up against the Fairlane and Statesman, its about as long as them 2 and its got the optional 250kw engine which puts it right up against the Caprice in a few ways. But that category is already dying with buyers switching to C class, 3 Series, A4's and other Euro's starting under $60K

Just because they hope don't mean it'll happen.

It's a good car, but it's a good american car, which says nothing really about it's credentials.

All that has to happen for the Chrysler to be eligible for V8 Supercar is for AVESCO to change the rule requiring that cars have to be based on Australian manufactured models. After all they control the series and the rules.

I don't see why they can't get into ATCC. Rumour on some U.S forums is they have the Gen3 with new name. So then they could steal 5lt donk also

I believe the top Chrysler 300M uses a 6.1 litre OHV Hemi engine - not a Gen 3.

theres the original 5.7 version as well, what Slick's getting at would be a couple of yanks think theres too many similarities between the 5.7 Hemi and the 5.7 Gen3, Both are OHV, both have a form of displacement on demand, both produce about 240-250kw in standard trim (standard Corvette trim for the Gen3)

Should have read beyond the word Gen3 to the part "with new name". My mistake.

Even from looking at the pics of the engine it's amazing you could be forgiven if you did think it was a gen3 they had. I wonder do they have that miss fire sound about it the hemi ?
Is the 6.1 close to the LS2 in anyway ?

The missfire sound from the different firing order would be one obvious point you'd think they'd change if they were using the Gen3 as a benchmark engine

maybe its just in the tune, they had the opportunity to rectify any problems or faults in the LS1 when developing the LS2
