Corvette seems to be the clear choice then, offering the most practicality and overall better quality than a Mustang (and has IRS).

I don't know if it's in production yet, but what about the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 Convertible?

I Figure the Shelby GT-500 in convertible form won't be available anytime soon. I'd like to buy now. If it comes out shortly after I get mine, so be it. There will always be some new car on the market and I can't wait forever for the "perfect" car.
The Saleen is supposed to have fixed and or replaced a lot of the cheapy stuff Ford used, although I have also heard the vette has better build quality.
Anybody have a view on this? I like certain things about both, but still leaning to the Chevy. Is there anyone familar with the work of Saleen?

Technically all you need to please the Unions is something American Made. So you could have a BMW Z4 also.

It's not American, but its got a Chrysler badge. Chrysler SRT6; supercharged Mercedes V6 built by Karmann in Germany off the old Merc SLK platform.

No brainer, get a Honda S2000.

Oh yeah, and forget about the American-made thingy.

Wow, does that still go on ?
    Scary

What about one of Factory Fives products ?
A nice Cobra rep or their version of the Ultima ?
Their new GT is very old-school TVR'ish in look.

Or how about an Ultima ? At least the engine/drivetrain is US made even if the chassis isn't ???

Depends on how willing you are to be "different" whislt still buying "American".
( ie some extremists might assume it's NOT American just because it doens't have a GM, Ford or Chryslker badge )

LOL, Yea, it is kinda scary. Anyway, I still seem to be getting a lot of non-U.S. suggestions, especially in the AMERICAN car section. If there isn't much going for the standard Corvette or the Saleen, and I don't want to wait for a GT500, maybe I should reconsider and get a 2004 Viper with an 8.3 Liter? Will that bring less questioning as to why?
Screw the practicality and the luggage space? Maybe I have this thing figured all wrong. Can the Viper be a daily driver, or will I get flamed for that too, LOL? What do you think, seriously? Thanks for the input!!! Driver Dave

Avoid the Panoz if you aren't too serious about power.

In all honesty, I don't find its Ford engine worth the price tag.

I am also going to say a Corvette Conv. would be great and the best choice.

Don't get me wrong, the Saleen Mustang is nice looking (last gen., not current), but it seems to be a car more suited for tracking that driving given its front bumper isn't friendly around bumps.

The Viper is great, but for your budget, a RT-10 would be an awesome choice. If you have any questions about the RT-10 or daily driving a Viper, I suggest PMing early93viper.

I think the Ultima is kinda out of his price range.
