FAP = Filtre Ŕ Particules. Basically the same as DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) but in French. HDI is just the PSA name for diesel engines.

HDi is short for the common rail diesel engine and FAP signals the use of a particulate filter. They still have the half/half paintscheme for the test and they are still very secretive.

I think with Prodrive’s recent acquisition of Aston Martin they are DETERMINED to win their class if not outright at Le Mans this year.

I think the fact that there are no Porsche RS Spyders in the field and only four Porsches total shows that Porsche has really lost its way. I prefer the good old days when Porsche was losing money but winning races to today when Porsche is engineering more useless options into their cars and buying Volkswagon in chunks. Sad, sad, sad.

Prodrive has not bought Aston Martin; it was a personal acquisition by Prodrive supremo David Richards. They are very determined to win as they will race a further developed version of the DBR9 with airco and some aero tweaks. Two of the 2007 cars will be raced by the Works team and one by Larbre. It will be six Astons versus five Corvettes. Both of them tip the Oreca Saleens for the class win though.

By "them", you are referring to the Aston Martin and Corvette camp?

The S7R's didn't do well in any other races did they? I can always remember it being a scrap between AM and the 'vettes. What makes the Oreca run Saleens so special?

Oreca has developed them thoroughly and supposedly they are bullet proof now. The mid-engined layout could give them an edge.

Yes, because losing money is optimal as far as survival is concerned...

Here is SPEED TV's coverage for those that are North Americanly afflicted (form SPEED TV's website):

    Saturday, June 16, 2007

7:30 AM - 8:00 AM: Le Mans Test Day

    8:00 AM - 8:30 AM: Le Mans Pre-Qualifying

8:30 AM - 11:00 AM: The Start (race starts at 9:00AM, 3:00 PM local French Time)

    ...

    5:30 PM - 7:00 PM: Le Mans

    ...

8:00 PM - Midnight: Le Mans

    Sunday, June 17, 2007

Midnight - 6:00 AM: Le Mans

    6:00 AM - 9:30 AM: The Finish

    Summary:

16.5 hours of live race coverage, 1.5 hours pre-race, 0.5 hours post-race, for a total of 18.5 hours of Le Mans coverage between June 16 and June 17.

Is Motor TV's coverage the full unadulterated 24 hours?

    EDIT: From Wikipedia:

The official test session for Le Mans was held on June 3, which served as the only practice session that is not part of qualifying timing. A total of eight hours of track time was allowed for teams to find their set-ups and rookie drivers to get in their required ten laps to learn the circuit.

Times would be lead by Sébastien Bourdais, with his Peugeot 908 leading two Audi R10s with a time of 3:26.707, a full second and a half ahead of the trailing Audi. Pescarolo Sport would have the fastest gasoline-powered car in fourth. In LMP2, the pair of Barazi-Epsilon entries would lead with identical times, 3:39.016. ASM team would trail the pair in class.

In GT1, the #63 Corvette would take the top time at the end of the day, running a 3:49.207, followed by the #007 Aston Martin and second factory Corvette. GT2 on the other hand would be dominated by Porsche, with all three positions being taken by new 997s. IMSA Performance Matmut would lead with a 4:01.598 with Autorlando and Flying Lizard following behind. The Risi Competizione entry would be the first Ferrari, in fourth.

Although there were various small incidents, there were three major accidents that lead to a red flag for the session. The #13 Courage Compétition driven by Guillaume Moreau went off at the Porsche Curves during the second hour.[9] The car would not return due to major damage that has bent the chassis. The second red flag involved the #24 Noël del Bello entry going off track at the same location in the hands of Vitaly Petrov.[10] The #10 Arena Motorsports Zytek went off at the same corner near the final hour, causing the final red flag when it briefly caught fire.[11]
