Being nice since 2007.
does anyone know what the gurney flap on the hood of the japanesse cars is for?
im in my third term of fluid mechanics but i still dont get why it would be in the center of the hood, theres no way the BL is that thick there.
i was lazy the first time so here are the pics enlarged. if this doesnt count go ahead and delete them.
theyre from the FSAE competition in detroit where car makers usually bring prototypes and test mules. last year there was a Ford GT mule.

those things exist already since a long time and before Dan Gurney monopolised the name they were called bug deflectors. I don't know if Japan is so heavily infested with bugs as to need them to catch a thief, but that's what they areOriginally Posted by johnnyperl

Yeah, they're bug deflectors... There aren't that many bugs flying about in Japan... I especially don't see why they would put it in front of the air scoop for the intercooler on the Impreza (it's not there on the picture I posted but I've seen some like that... Maybe they realized it wasn't a good idea).Originally Posted by henk4

OK, well i didnt figure its purpose was so simple as id never seen one in the middle of the hood. in that case its not a gurney flap so theres no conflict with the name.Originally Posted by henk4
