Care Racing, the team that successfully races the Prodrive developed 550 Maranello, have decided to produce a road-going replica.
Prodrive initailly said the project wouldn't be economically feasable, Care went to ES Motorsport, who decided the sums did add up.
Plans are for a very limited run of 50 cars, and ES Motorsport are saying they won't be selling any parts - only complete cars.
Taking a standard 550 Maranello as a donor car, and £90,000 of your hard-earned cash, the car is refitted with carbonfibre panels, exactly the same as those on the race car.
This gives significant weight reductions, for example the front bumper, originally 28kg, in carbonfiber weighs just 4kg. 270kg in all is saved, giving the car a kerbweight of 1430kg (further savings are planned so that the "production" version will meet the target of 1400kg)
The interior is still quite luxurious, although there is lots of cf everywhere. The car is intended to be civilised enough for day-to-day use.
The engine is fettled to give 540bhp, primarily done by fiddling with the ECU, and adding some electronic gubbins from the Enzo, allowing a richer mix at higher revs.
Predicted stats of 0-60 in 3.9 and 330km/h.
Who said the Swiss didn't make a useful contribution to the world?

There are some better pics in evo so I'll scan them in tomorrow.
