    Air conditioning in a GT3 / GT3 RS?

Someone asked me today, if a person wanted air conditioning in one of these cars, could they special order it? I've wondered that too, what if you live in a hot climate and want to use it as any other car?

Yep. It's a factory option,IIRC and I've heard that quite a few buyers order it.

I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

I'm fairly certain the current 997 GT3 comes with air-con as standard anyway. Given that fact I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to specify it for the RS model too. It'll just be the same standard unit that they fit too all 997s anyway, so why wouldn't they?

The 996 GT3 came with no aircon as standard, but I think well over 90% of customers ticked the aircon box when speccing their cars anyway. Porsche probably figured there was no point in not having it as standard if everyone was going to order it regardless of the weight penalty.

Yep, even aftermarket. The 360 CS, which fits the GT3/RS' category, is able to have lightweight air-conditioning available. A couple fellows have A/C in their 360 CS' as well as radios and a couple other things not offered by the factory.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured as much, imagine paying that kind of money and having the salesman tell you..."I'm sorry, your new car costs more than my house but you can't get A/C."

The M3 CSL only had it as an option as well, as does the N24/Rally GT versions of the AMV8 - although they don't have it retrofitable (like the others) as they save a few more grams by not bonding the mounts onto the chassis

Why would you think that? Besides, unless you plan to use the GT3 as a track day car only. Getting it with A/C isn't a bad idea at all.

    ^ not in this climate
it's not an option on series 1 GT3 clubsports though - it costs a LOT to get it fitted iirc.

The Clubsport wasn't designed with A/C on its mind. It's first mission is to kill the competition. A/C steals power from the engine.

How much does A/C weigh anyway?

Non-electric windows work just as well, with a mechanism not even weighing in a kilogram ! And it doesnt eat away the 5-7 kW a aircon does.

Over a certain speed (somewhere around 100 km/h) aicon is more efficient though.
