I read something interesting the other day about drag tires. Supposedly they absorb some energy (by deforming) at the start that would have just caused wheelspin and as the car gains traction and starts moving down the track the tire regains its original shape and releases the energy as forward motion.

I also heard, some time ago, that as a dragster goes faster, the inertial forces on the tires actually cause them to expand creating something similar to a CVT that shortens the final-drive ratio at slower speed and raises it at higher speeds.

I doubt either of these functions were engineered into tires (initially). I bet they were just stumbled into, and that's pretty awesome, IMO.

Care to share the post processing used?

The masking and added gaussian blur is a little obvious.

    Cropped, quite heavily & Curves.

Yeah, I was pushing a little bit I realized. Actually I used Surface blur with Layer masking and it didn't quite come out right so I then went over it with 100% strength Blur tool and it came out a little stronger. Its quite hard to get it perfect and it still isn't. Also I used it to smooth out the glare on the front of the car.

I then used the clone tool to take out some spots.

And to bring out the Chrome etc I used the dodge tool - Mostly on Highlights

Zeppelins asked me to change the photo, I just need to get my SD Card back from my friend so it should be changed by tonight

Indeed they do. You have to find the right pressure for your car to optimize this though. When a car does its burnout you can see how much the tire expands It's actually quite a bit and thats an important part in designing the car for clearance issues. The way the tire is built allows this to happen, as with modern radials there isn't the sidewall flex and expansion.

you would be on the money mate, although by the looks of it these cars run nitrogen in the tyres and not air (blue valve cap normally indicates nitrogen filled tyres)
