The Riley 1.5 was the best selling post-war Riley of all models produced. It was presented in 1957 and stayed in production for 8 years. Almost 40,000 were made but that is still way behind the sistermodel Wolseley 1500, of which more than 103,000 were made. The Riley was designed as the sporty variant and the 1500 cc engine produced 69 bhp, against only 50 for the Wolsely version.
The chassis was an increased version of the Morris Minor, while the body looked like a smaller Morris Oxford. The car had all the traditional luxuries of British carbuilding, including leather seats and wooded dash and wooden rims wherever possible. The engine was the same as found in the MGA.
It proved also to be a good contender in touring car races, and an example is shown here participating in the Silverstone Historics in 2005.
