The new CLS 63 AMG is an exceptional automobile offering impressive performance, dynamic styling and an exclusive interior. The four-door Coupé is powered by a 6.3-litre V8 AMG engine, which was developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG. The new 378 kW/514 hp AMG power plant has the highest specific power and torque of any naturally aspirated eight-cylinder production engine in the world. The refined Coupé has a 0 - 100 km/h time of just 4.5 seconds, on its way to a governed top speed of 250 km/h.

The high-performance engine of the new CLS 63 AMG is partnered by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission, which offers the driver a choice between fully automatic and manual shifting, with changes actuated either at the selector lever or Formula 1 style, by a press of the aluminium gearshift paddles. Appropriately, the powerful engine is also mated with the new AMG sports suspension, based on the semiactive air suspension system AIRMATIC DC which incorporates the ADS II Adaptive Damping System, and with the new AMG high-performance brake system, which provides plenty of stopping power thanks to composite front brakes and vented and perforated brake discs on all wheels.

The refined coupé styling also incorporates powerful AMG styling elements, while the interior impresses with a blend of exclusive sportiness and superior materials and build quality. Standard specification includes AMG sports seats with nappa leather upholstery, the AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel with new aluminium AMG gearshift paddles and the new AMG instrument cluster with 320 km/h speedometer scale and red needles

The new ZZ572/620 is built around an all-new Gen VI tall deck Bow Tie big block. This all new engine is filled with a forged 4340 steel crank with 4.375 inch stroke, shot peened, forged 4340 H-beam rods, and forged aluminum pistons with full floating wrist pins. Hard core race parts for hard core long term durability!

The redesigned rectangular port aluminum cylinder heads result in a pump gas friendly 9.6 to 1 compression ratio. A hydraulic roller cam with 0.632 inch lift actuates the stainless steel valves. And, of course, hardened chromemoly retainers, roller rocker arms, and dual valve springs are used to complete the valvetrain.

This engine makes 620 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 650 ft. lbs. of torque at 4500 RPM.

Pump gas friendly, massive torque and horsepower, all from GM, the ZZ572/620 is for those who consider excess to be barely enough.

GM Crate Engines are horsepower rated to SAE Standards.

The 572 is an absolute beast of an engine when it needs to be and is still refined enough to carry a 12 month warranty. It's also the same engine Leno put in his '55 Buick Roadmaster.

perhaps, but I'm still going to call bullshit - since they didn't list the tq, I can't prove it either way... but the HP is not the highest specific output...

And then there's the RS4's 413hp from 4.2 as well, 98.3hp/l. Then there's the Maserati Gran Sport, 400hp from 4.24l, 94.34hp/l. Oh, then there's the Radical SR8 with 363hp from just 2.6 litres in standard form (!!!), a whopping 139.62hp/l! Plus it weighs only 600 kg, giving you 605 bhp/ tonne.

Given, the SR8 is hardly a production car, but you can buy one for road-use. Even if it doesn't qualify, both the RS4 & Gran Sport (& pretty soon the new M3 as well) comfortably outgun the Merc for specific power.

Especially the grey ones fitted to the 65 range...
