During the next months, it was further developed before it could make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. Development work continued and the original plans to race the car on closed circuits were changed, and instead Lord Drayson and his team set their sights on the World Electric Land Speed Record for cars weighing under 1,000 kg. Instead of diverting to known record locations like the Utah Salt Flats, Drayson opted to showcase the pinnacle of British engineering at the Elvington airfield in Yorkshire.

The relatively short 1.86 mile runway did require some tweaks to the design, ensuring the B12/69EV could reach its top speed quicker. Accordingly, it was fitted with a lighter but also less powerful battery pack. This brought the weight with a driver down to below 1,000 kg from the 1,095 kg driver-less weight of the original design. As result power was also slightly capped at a combined 480 kW or 600 bhp. Another vital part of the electric system was QualcommHalo's wireless charging system. This is capable of recharging the batteries between runs within the maximum time allotted.

The record run was scheduled for June 26th and the target was 175 mph or 282 km/h; a record that was set over three decades earlier. With an average speed of 204.185 mph or 328.604 km/h over the timed mile, Lord Drayson absolutely smashed the record. A day later, the B12/69EV also set several British acceleration records. Next up for the innovative Drayson Racing Technlogies team is an entry in the new-for-2014 Formula E championship for electric cars. Unfortunately the World Speed Record holding Lola-Drayson will not be eligible for this FIA-sanctioned series.
