Chassis:
Sold new to the Automobile Club of Argentina, this Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta has a very colourful history. Following its racing career, it was re-bodied by Vignale with a coupe body in 1953. In this guise it was sold to the United States where it was fitted with a small-block V8. Noted Ferrari collector Stan Nowak bought both the car and later the engine, and during the 1970s had the Vignale body removed. Restoration did not start until 1986 when the subsequent owner commissioned Neil Twyman to build a new body identical to the original Touring Barchetta. In January of 2011, it was acquired at auction by a prominent American collector. After a dozen years in the same hands, it was consigned as one of the star lots of the 2023 RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale.
