Chassis:
Sold to an Italian enthusiast in Milan, this Touring Berlinetta was completed in the summer of 1938. Following a brief spell in Switzerland, it was imported to the United States by Alfa Romeo distributor Frank Griswold. He fielded the car in the very first Watkins Glen Grand Prix, in 1948. He won the race outright, beating several actual racing cars. Offered for sale again soon after, the 8C 2900 passed through various American hands before it was acquired by South African enthusiast David Cohen in 1980. The rare Alfa Romeo was rebuilt for Cohen by Tony Merrick in the UK. Upon completion, it was actively campaigned by Cohen for many years in a wide variety of events. When he moved to Vancouver, Canada, he brought the car with him. After enjoying the car for a quarter of a century, Cohen finally sold to the car to the current, American owner in 2006. After racing the car in the Mille Miglia retrospective, he commissioned a complete restoration from Butch Dennison. The flawless work received numerous accolades including Best of Show awards at Pebble Beach and Villa d'Este.
