First of all i would like let GeaKana know that the S 400 CDI did not have 260 Hp, but 250. Also i wuld like to specify thast the most powerful diesel saloon car till now is not the Benz, but the BMW 740D, with 258 HP. Thats all. Regarding the A8, beautiful engine, i just wish that the Americans would appreciate diesel more. |

First I would like 2 say that the first's user comment is wrong...I mean the best luxury diesel until now was the S400 CDI with 260HP not the S320CDI....but now the new A8 V8TDI looks like it has dethroned Mercedes...can't wait 4 a retaliation from Mercedes. |

In the same VAG group of companies resides the real king of diesel engines, being the V10 5 litre, fitted in the Phaeton and the Touareg. This thing produces 750 NM torque, but as the Phaeton is so heavy I can imagine the Audi being quicker. Mercedes has a similar sized, but less powerful V8, fitted into the new E400CDI and the S400CDI, and BMW also has a very nice V8, more or less of similar capabilities. These cars offer the best combination of comfortable and if need be very fast driving with a reasonable fuel economy. I bet that over 50% of the A8 production will be diesel powered. (hard to imagine in the US of A) |

"As a dealer in the luxury Pre-Owned car market (in South Africa) I have had occasiion to drive the best on offer by all the big names in the industry (albeit a year or so after my European and American counter-parts). In my opinion Audi has consistently out-performed the competition in practically every category, especially that of ride comfort, driveability and traction (obviously). I have no doubt that even a 2000 model A8 4.2 is a better drive than the latest equivalent offerings from BMW and Mercedes. I will concede that that Audi was lacking in the ""Gadget"" department - a situation which has been remedied in the latest A8 (so far only seen at the Auto Africa show). And so to my point: With this impressive vehicle, Audi has once again moved the cheese out of reach of the rest. Well done Audi - that's VORSPRUNG!" |

Here's what i can acclaim as a true sporty diesel. Following the new trend in diesel powered cars, Audi hasn't missed to set the pace... just have to watch out if it can outperform the Mercedes S320 CDI which is the most appreciated executive diesel car! |
