Remember when Lancia mattered?! I don't! It was before I was alive! Maybe their brand presence, I dunno, had something to do with these awesome rally cars.
Who knows?!
I'd like to argue that philosophically (not in terms or sales or money) Lancia's rally cars did no good at all to its image.

Oh yes they were certainly good for presence in people's mind, but two of the best known Lancias (the Stratos and the Delta HF) aren't very Lancia in my opinion.
They were certainly better than we have know, though.

It would be fitting to quote here some of Walter Röhrl's words about the 1983 Monte Carlo event:
Talk about no-nonsense tactics!We had some help fom Fiorio too, he was very good. During practice he asked me what I needed, and I answered "clear roads". So he arranged for lorries to carry salt to the key stages from Italy before the rally to make sure they were clear. Typical Fiorio!
