2004-10-26: New 3-Series, Jaguar Sports cars, glorious Bentley, and more ...
Today BMW has released the first pictures of the all new 'E90' 3-Series, which is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motorshow in the spring of 2005. Top of the line model is the 258 bhp 330i.
British manufacturer Jaguar has built up a great reputation as a sportscar manufacturer and in today's update we take a close look at two of the marque's quintessential sportscars. First up is the Jaguar SS 90 Roadster, which was Jaguar's very first sportscar and paved the way for the legendary SS 100. The second car doesn't really need an introduction; the Jaguar E-Type. The featured example is quite possibly the best E-Type in existence.
Another British manufacturer with a rich history is Bentley. Throughout the 1920s, under the (technical) control WO Bentley, they produced the finest cars of the era, powered by exotic 4-valve per cylinder engines. The first of these was the two-time Le Mans winning 3-Litre model. To commemorate the racing success Bentley constructed the 'Red Label' 3-Litre Speed Model, of which a stunning Vanden Plas bodied example is featured.

Volvo's 3CC made its world debut at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum 2004 and promptly beat competition from around the world to win the overall prize for best prototype design, plus a total of five gold medals for its environmental performance. In retrospect, Cisitalia 202 CMM Pinin Farina Coupe, introduced at the 1947 Milan Coachbuilding Show was the immediate hit of its day. It set new design standards, which were followed by Pinin Farina and many other coach builders for decades to come.
Custom coach building was at a high level in the 1950s with companies like Zagato, Touring, Ghia and many others bodying a wide variety of chassis with stunningly beautiful designs. Today we take a close look at a Ghia bodied Ferrari; the unique salmon livered 375 MM Coupe Speciale. Most of these coach builders have given up on their rich tradition, but Zagato is still active and were responsible for the limited edition Aston Martin DB AR1, which our photographic team shot at an owners meeting in Monterey.

One of the best kept secrets of the 1930s is the Squire. With only seven examples built this fine handling and lightning fast British Roadster is exceptionally rare. Also built in relatively small numbers is the BMW 2002 Turbo, which pioneered the turbo on the road.
From the recent Paris and Sydney motorshows come two interesting one-offs. Holden debuted the hot pink Torana TT36, a concept for a future hot-hatch from the Australian manufacturer. Pagani showcased a custom version of the Zonda, the 600 bhp Zonda C12 Monza, built to the specific wishes of a customer.
