Already seen on the final Zondas, this 'Carbon-Titanium' is as strong as conventional carbon-fibre but the added titanium gives the structure some elasticity in one direction, making it less likely to crack or even disintegrate on impact. Due to the gull-wing doors, that cut very deep into the roof, much of the chassis development focused on maintaining rigidity, while keeping the weight under control.

Bolted to both ends of the carbon-fibre tub are chromoly steel subframes that support the Huayra's running gear. Each of the four corners features double wishbone suspension with push-rod actuated coil springs over Ohlins adjustable dampers. Not surprisingly, the stopping power is provided by carbon-ceramic disc brakes. Mounted in the rear subframe is a bespoke V12 engine developed by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary AMG and a seven-speed gearbox by British experts XTrac.

In order to produce the required power, while keeping emission and consumption levels in check, AMG and Pagani opted to switch to forced induction for the new engine. Dubbed the 'M158', the V12 displaces just under six litre and is equipped with twin turbos. One of the key areas of development was throttle control and reducing the notorious turbo-lag to a minimum. The end result is an engine that produces 700 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, and still meets the strictest of environmental regulations.

Partnering with XTrac, who also provided the gearbox for the highly acclaimed Zonda R, Pagani developed a new seven-speed gearbox for the Huayra. A dual-clutch setup was considered but in the end abandoned due the 70 kg weight increase. That is understandable, considering that the gearbox that did make it onto the Huayra only weighs 96 kg in total. The transversely mounted 'box sports seven forward gears that can be actuated by paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.
