Its debut in Europe will follow in the spring of 2003. The design of the avant-garde Volkswagen is absolutely original and a synonym for joie de vivre independent of status. Moreover, the New Beetle Convertible reflects the positive character of the classic Beetle convertible, which made history as the first classless Volkswagen, in a refreshingly new and progressive way. The New Beetle Convertible and the Beetle Convertible enjoy even closer spiritual connections than those of their sedan counterparts.

Before Volkswagen introduced the Beetle Convertible in 1949, top-down driving in a four-seater was beyond the means of many people. With a fully developed design, it offered pure, driving fun for everyday driving - everywhere in the world. After over 330,000 cars sold, the Beetle Convertible was taken off the market in 1980, by which time it had long since developed into the classless lifestyle car for generations of convertible drivers. The New Beetle Convertible is a totally modern interpretation of exactly this automotive concept. A lifestyle car, just as classless, just as open and just as completely suitable for everyday driving.

With its design that includes high torsional rigidity, fully-fledged rear seating with optional pass-through, a rollover protection system that deploys automatically when needed, an all-season soft-top including heated glass rear window and, for the first time ever in this class, a six-speed automatic transmission (optional feature), the New Beetle Convertible shows just how extremely safe, comfortable and suitable for everyday use a lifestyle-oriented vehicle can be.

The colors of the special paint finishes developed just for the New Beetle Convertible shake up everyday life. Just the names - such as Aquarius Blue, Mellow Yellow and Harvest Moon, to name only a few - make it clear that a positive and appealing character is an essential feature of this car.
