Chassis:
Delivered as a rolling chassis by Ferrari's Assistenza Clienti, this third series BB LM was finished at the workshop of Fabrizio Violati's Scuderia Bellancauto. Under the supervision of veteran Ferrari engineer Guilio Borsari, the 512 was completed with a unique, more aerodynamic. Appropriately, the unique car is often referred to as the Ferrari 512 BBB for Berlinetta Boxer Bellancauto. The work was completed towards the end of April, in time for Violati to debut the car in the Monza 1,000 km. The car finished sixth overall and first in class. An electrics issue thwarted the team's effort at Le Mans but class wins were scored at Enna in June of 1981 and again at Mugello in 1982. In 1984, chassis 35529 was raced at Le Mans again but this time a gearbox failure brought an early to the race. Retired from active duty at the end of that year, it was subsequently displayed in Violati's Maranello Rosso museum for nearly 30 years. Shortly after the entire collection was sold, it was sold alongside many of the other Ferrari's from the late Violati's stable at the 2014 Bonhams Quail Lodge sale. The unique 512 BB LM was acquired by French enthusiast and dealer Jean Guikas. Seven years later, it was consigned to the 2021 RM Sotheby's Guikas Collection Sale.
