Chassis:
The final short-tail F1 GTR built, this chassis was part of BMW's 1996 factory effort. Having served as a spare for most of the season, it was pressed into action late in the season for a couple of races in Brasil. Driven by Johnny Cecotto and Nelson Piquet, it won the two hour races at Curitiba and Brasilia and early in 1997 Steve Soper joined the two South Americans to win the Mil Milhas in Brasilia. Chassis 18R has been retained by BMW and was later restored to the livery used by the sister chassis 16R at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996. At a rare outing, it is seen here during the 2012 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
