The first of four Ferrari 212 Exports clothed by Touring with a Berlinetta body, chassis 0088E was sold to gentleman racer Augusto Caraceni. He was heir to the Caraceni fashion company, whose suits were preferred by the likes of Gianni Agnelli, Enzo Ferrari and Humphrey Bogart. In September of 1951, Caraceni used the 212 Export to finish second in class and fifth overall in the Stella Alpina Hillclimb. Replaced by a more potent Ferrari, chassis 0088E was soon after sold to another amateur racing driver, Count Antonio Naselli. He raced the car in the 1952 Giro di Sicilia and also brought it back to the Stella Alpina Hillclimb. In Count Naselli's ownership, chassis 0088E was once again replaced by a more potent car, this time a 340 America.
In the subsequent years, it changed hands several times until it was exported to the United States in the early 1960s along with many of its contemporaries. The current owner acquired the rare 212 Export Touring Berlinetta in 1969 and used it sparingly for a few years before putting it in storage. Here it remained until 2008 when a complete restoration was started on the highly original early competition Ferrari. The elaborate project spanned over four years and eventually the invoices totalled over $600,000. Since the restoration was completed, the rarely seen Ferrari has only made a handful of appearances and not in one of the major events. In January of 2014, it was sold at the Bonhams Scottsdale auction and has since been shown at Pebble and rallied in the 2015 Tour Auto.
