Chassis:
Chassis RE40-04 was entrusted to Eddie Cheever for the second half of the 1983 Formula 1 World Championship. The American raced the car in seven Grands Prix with a third place finish at the Italian Grand Prix. He also placed fourth a few weeks eaerlier in Austria. Retained by Renault after its contemporary racing career, this example was eventually meticulously restored to full running order by Renault Classic. In 2012 Alain Prost was reunited with the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Despite ultimately costing him his first World Championship, Prost still has a soft spot for the RE40, particularly its refined handling. It has since been regularly demonstrated by Renault Classic until it was consigned to the 2025 Artcurial Renault Icons sale.
