Chassis:
Completed in the summer of 1988, this Sauber Mercedes C9 made its debut at that year's Nürburgring 1000 km in the hands of Mauro Baldi and Stefan Johansson. They started on pole but failed to finish. They were more successful a fortnight later, winning the Spa 1000 km. Baldi also won the 1989 season opening Suzuka 480 km in this car, partnering with Jean-Louis Schlesser for the occasion. Although chassis 88.C9.04 finished on the podium three more times in 1989, no more victories were scored by this car. Along with three of the other five C9s built, this example is today part of the Mercedes-Benz Museum collection.
