Chassis:
The second of three all new cars built for the 1982 season, MP4/1 chassis number 6 was debuted in the Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder by Niki Lauda. The Austrian driver was disqualified for being underweight after finishing third behind the victorious Watson in a sister car. Later in the year Lauda did taste victory in this car when he won the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. In MP4/1C, non ground-effects, specification Watson added another victory to the chassis' tally at Long Beach.
Restored to MP4/1B spec, chassis 6 was sold to the Sultan of Brunei. It was later part of a German collection before it was raced with considerable success by Bobby Verdon-Roe in historic events. Through Fiskens, it was sold to the current custodian ahead of the 2022 season. He raced the car at that year’s Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
